The rainy days of May

Willamette Valley weather has been decidedly unpredictable this last week. Today, we have had cool temperatures, occasional hail, rather persistent cold showers and a few flashes of sunshine. Everything is really green, but too cool to be outdoors in shirt sleeves.
The garden is 'in the ground' as of this morning. I look forward to summertime chard, spinach, little bitty carrots, radishes, green beans, tomatoes, eggplant, snap peas and the usual array of cooking spices. I am glad, however, that the planting beds are raised--I can reach them without crippling effect.
Several visitors to MVW have also been enjoying the bounty of our area restaurants and wineries. A special experience last week was several east coast restaurant people sharing fantastic food at Nick's coupled with Vista Hills and Panther Creek wines. Fortunately for me, they invited me to share this evening and it was truly memorable. We tasted the Vista Hills Pinot gris rose' and it, as well as the Panther Creek 20th Anniversary Pinot noir. Both were delectable and delightful.
A very nice aspect of the bed and breakfast business is the great people one meets. Here's hoping this summer's guests are as pleasant as previous ones!
