Martha's blog

January sunshine

January sun has dispelled the rainy, stormy weather previously noted. The vineyards are sleeping, but Martha's Vineyard West is not sleeping. Welcoming visitors from around the world! Most recently from the UK on return visits to the Willamette Valley and wine country.
We would welcome you all as well! Visit the website or FB to see what is transpiring and then come back here to contact us for reservations!

And...the waters rose

The predicted snow storm didn't happen. But, rain is here. Most definitely here. Valley schools closing early and probably not holding school tomorrow. A good weekend, therefore, to sample the wonders of a great small town--Mcminnville. Staying at Martha's Vineyard West situates you ideally for food and wine sampling, enjoying Third Street and hearing the rhythms of winter time in the epicenter of Pinot noir production.

January 2012 Musings

Among other things that have been resolved for 2012, there will positively be more presence in cyberspace with blog, comment, pictures. It seems that the pace of technology exceeds the pace of my mental processes about using said technology.
From the doorway of Martha's Vineyard West it is now possible to admire a new porch with enlarged seating possibilities and a new gate and fence at the entry of the garden.

April Fool's Day

Another Friday and another April 1. We are hoping that you have all figured out your tax situations, including the tax changes for the State of Oregon. Now, you deserve a night away in the beauty of Oregon wine country. There are still spots for Saturday night at Martha's Vineyard West. And, No April Fooling, this Saturday a queen sized double with private bath and expanded continental breakfast is $99. But wait, there's more! This Saturday April 2, each guest couple will receive a 375 ml bottle of Panther Creek Cellars Pinot noir.

Spring time weekend special

This month of March has the dubious distinction of being the wettest March since l979 here in the Willamette Valley. However, we are optimistic about spring possibilities and eager for truly good weather.
To celebrate those possibilities, MVW is offering a weekend special for April 16 and 17, the weekend of the Dundee Hills Passport Tour that showcases the fine wineries and vineyards in the Dundee Hills. We are in Mcminnville, about 6 miles from the Dundee Hills area and uniquely positioned to offer the best of that area and the great restaurants, galleries and wineries in town!

March rains but April coming soon

MVW is looking forward to a great season for persons visiting the Willlamette Valley. Some new happenings here: a new porch, expanded and made more friendly for sitting, sipping, swinging and surfing! Come enjoy the expanded space and the easy views.
We are already accepting reservations for IPNC (July 28-31) and one room left for those eager to enjoy that event and be easy walking distance close to Linfield where many activities related to IPNC happen.

November from the Willamette Valley

November arrived and the area is still working on the end of harvest. It was a particularly late year, but still a promising vintage. MVW had a number of interesting visitors during harvest time. All seemed to enjoy the workings of harvest by observing the picking, helping sort fruit, watching te first phases of fermentation and generally hobnobbing with the local industry folk. It was particularly enjoyable to host an east coast 'volunteer' worker for Panther Creek Cellars. She was enamored enough by the local scene that she is considering ways to move out here! We hope she does.

A short history of the house at 835 SE Vlllard

A couple of weekends back, a family that is historically associated with the house in which Martha's Vineyard West is operated came to McMinnville for a family reunion. One of the direct descendants of an early owner, Brian R. stayed with us at MVW and enjoyed several days of the family gathering and touring throughout the Willamette.

Summer Heat Wave Declared Over

We are declaring the recent heat wave to be finished. A very good time to visit us in the Willamette Valley. The gardens are blooming, the wineries are welcoming and MVW would be happy to host you! Fresh fruit for breakfast is a special draw during these summer weeks. We have fantastic raspberries and blueberries of local provenance served daily. It is also lavender season for beautiful blooms.

June finally a bit promising

June is here. Things grow apace, but the weather remains a bit dicey. However, Martha's Vineyard West is never deterred from adding to the wonders of the back yard. Fish have been returned to the circulating pond and a new greenhouse has arrived and been put in place. A visit to Macminnville's Saturday Market for the garden fair resulted in the purchase of this greenhouse. I bought the display item from Solargems and the staff delivered it at the end of show and installed it as well.
